The Business at Box Office Baahubali 2
It’s not a Hollywood movie. It’s neither a Steven Spielberg’s adventure movie nor a James Cameron’s sci-fi. He is not Christopher Nolan of Dark Knight trilogy nor is the Peter Jackson of The Lord of The Rings.
It’s our own SS Rajamouli. And it’s Bahubali, a historic fictional movie made in India.
Indian cinema seems to have to experience a tsunami wave over the last two weeks; a tsunami of box office collections by SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Bahubali 2: The Conclusion.
The period movie has crossed the 1000 crore milestone and is inching towards 1500 crore with Hindi dubbed version alone garnering nearly 500 crores. It’s simply mind-boggling. Historical as it is verified by the celebrity twitteratte.
Usually, business at the box office has been something like a tradition to Khans of Bollywood. One or the other rout the box office with their yearly-one-movie. And the business is sure to happen. The latest is Dangal’s worldwide collection 1146.69 crore ( $1.8 billion).
In the context of Hollywood, where the box office records never last for too long, James Cameron’s Avatar stands at the top of the table. The sci-fi has minted approximately $3 billion worlds over. Mr Cameron has broken his own record of box office collections for his tragic Titanic, collecting roughly $2.2 billion.
But Bahubali 2:
The Conclusion, simultaneously made in Telugu and Tamil and dubbed in Hindi and other Indian languages, raised the bar to the international standard both in terms of visual creativity and box office collections. It’s unprecedented in Indian cinema history.
So far, it’s unthinkable and unstoppable for Bahubali franchise, which broke all the box office records. Now, everyone is eagerly awaiting to see where it stops.
